Prebiotics vs. Probiotics vs. Postbiotics
Three terms, three different things. Here's how they actually differ — and why Gutshot's formula is built around two of the three.
| Probiotics | Prebiotics | Postbiotics | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | Live beneficial bacteria | Fiber that feeds bacteria | Compounds from/derived from bacteria |
| Needs to be alive? | Yes | N/A — not a living organism | No — often heat-inactivated |
| Storage | Often needs refrigeration or careful handling | Shelf-stable | Shelf-stable |
| In Gutshot? | No | Yes — Bimuno + PHGG (Sunfiber) | Yes — heat-inactivated L. plantarum |
Why Gutshot skips live probiotics
Live probiotic strains have to survive manufacturing, shipping, storage, and stomach acid to do anything useful — which is a lot of points of failure for a supplement that isn't refrigerated end-to-end. Gutshot's formula instead pairs prebiotics (which feed the beneficial bacteria you already have) with postbiotics (which deliver bacterial benefits without needing anything to stay alive), plus collagen peptides for gut barrier support.
This isn't a claim that one approach is universally "better" — probiotics, prebiotics, and postbiotics all have their own research base and use cases. It's simply the combination Gutshot's formula is built on, and why. Full detail on the specific research behind it is on the science page.
